Evolution and Collapse of a Lorentz Beam in Kerr Medium

چکیده
The effect of Kerr nonlinearity on a Lorentz beam is investigated by using the nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation. Based on the variational method, the evolution of a Lorentz beam in a Kerr medium is demonstrated and the critical collapse powers of the Lorentz beam are derived. Numerical simulations of the propagation of a Lorentz beam in a Kerr medium show that the beam becomes quasicircular in a very short distance. Although the beam width of the Lorentz beam broadens, the central part of the beam give rise to a partial collapse.

Dynamic Control of Collapse in a Vortex Airy Beam
Here we study systematically the self-focusing dynamics and collapse of vortex Airy optical beams in a Kerr medium. The collapse is suppressed compared to a non-vortex Airy beam in a Kerr medium due to the existence of vortex fields. The locations of collapse depend sensitively on the initial power, vortex order, and modulation parameters. The collapse may occur in a position where the initial ...
متن کاملCollapse arrest in instantaneous Kerr media via parametric interactions.
We demonstrate, theoretically and experimentally, that a four-wave mixing parametric interaction is able to arrest the collapse of a two-dimensional multicolor beam in an instantaneous Kerr medium. We consider two weak idlers interacting via a third order nonlinearity with two pump beams and we show that a class of collapse-free quasisolitary solutions can be experimentally observed in a normal...
متن کاملSelf-Focusing Dynamics of Coupled Optical Beams
We theoretically and experimentally investigate the mutual collapse dynamics of two spatially separated optical beams in a Kerr medium. Depending on the initial power, beam separation, and the relative phase, we observe repulsion or attraction, which in the latter case reveals a sharp transition to a single collapsing beam. This transition to fusion of the beams is accompanied by an increase in...

Dynamics of relativistic outflows along the rotation axis of a Kerr black hole is investigated using a simple model that takes into account the relativistic tidal force of the central source as well as the Lorentz force due to the large-scale electromagnetic field which is assumed to be present in the ambient medium. The evolution of the speed of the flow relative to the ambient medium is studi...
متن کاملNonlinear combining of laser beams.
We propose to combine multiple laser beams into a single diffraction-limited beam by beam self-focusing (collapse) in a Kerr medium. Beams with total power above critical are first combined in the near field and then propagated in the optical fiber/waveguide with Kerr nonlinearity. Random fluctuations during propagation eventually trigger a strong self-focusing event and produce a diffraction-l...
